Happy Mates at Moors Valley

We enjoyed a trip to Moors Valley Country Park, as part of our mentoring scheme.

The Year 3 and Year 8 Mates scheme kicked off with an exciting adventure to Forestry England’s Moors Valley, where the children enjoyed a range of activities and the opportunity to spend time with each other. The Mates program offers the chance for the school’s prefects to develop their leadership skills, while the younger children are supported in their transition to the prep school. The children are put into families from transition day, when they enjoy a treasure hunt together, and these groups of mixed Year 3 and 8 children become firm friends as the year progresses.

The trip included exploring the play trails, eating picnic lunches, enjoying the Tree Top Trail in complete silence to enjoy the sounds of nature, and finishing off with a play on the adventure playground – enjoyed by the older children as much as the youngsters! The scheme, now in its fifth year, has developed relationships across the school and helped the children to feel part of one school community. The children returned to school exhausted but very happy, and excited to plan their next Mates family gathering!

As well as weekly meetings, the children will enjoy a trip to Marwell Zoo next term and a pool and pizza party in the summer – perfect opportunities to develop their growing friendships.
