Modern Foreign Languages
At Stroud School we are mindful of the need to prepare children for a world in which the knowledge of foreign languages brings many advantages.
We believe that all children should have the opportunity, throughout Key Stages 1, 2 and 3, to study foreign languages and develop their interest and curiosity in the diverse cultures of other nations. If a child’s talent and natural interest in languages is to flourish, it is important to provide early language opportunities to harness their learning potential and enthusiasm.
In this context we expose our children to French initially and introduce Spanish in Year 6. By providing these two modern foreign languages, we help them to develop a sense of tolerance and understanding of other cultures and nationalities, as well as equipping them with the linguistic skills to facilitate any future interactions they may have with French and Spanish speakers.
