Stroud School Appoints New Deputy Head (Pastoral and Welfare)

Stroud School is delighted to announce that Mr Stewart has been appointed as the new Deputy Head (Pastoral and Welfare) of Stroud School, Romsey, commencing in September 2020.

Mr Stewart is currently Assistant Head Future Schools at Fulham School in London. He has more than seven years’ experience in education, after qualifying as a history teacher on the School Direct Programme. He has experience in teaching across all age groups and co-ordinating the preparation of pupils for 11+ and 13+. He has taken on increasingly high-profile roles and responsibilities within Fulham School and is a member of its Senior Leadership, where he has helped shape and lead on elements of the school’s new strategy plan, reviewing and monitoring implementation of school policies and maintaining a close awareness of safeguarding issues.

Before becoming a teacher, Mr Stewart served as an officer in the British Army. He was responsible for leading an managing up to 120 male and female soldiers; overseeing their professional and personal discipline on operation in Iraq and Germany. He has served two tours in Iraq and also spent time in Afghanistan, working with Afghan security forces and NATO military to build relationships and share intelligence.

In his spare time, he enjoys orienteering, climbing mountains, sailing and running half marathons, at home – and in Afghanistan.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Stewart says: “I am thrilled and honoured to be joining the Stroud family and the excellent team that help make the school such a happy and inspirational experience for its children. From the time I have already spent at Stroud – meeting the staff and children – it is clear what a special place it is.
