For those of you visiting for the first time, welcome to Stroud School, the preparatory school for King Edward VI School, Southampton. I hope that this site offers a glimpse of the Stroud way of life and entices you to look further. To our Old Boys and Girls, former ‘Stroudies’, welcome back! It is lovely to know you are keeping in touch and rekindling old memories of the School.
When you visit us, expect to see pupils who are honest, respectful, and happy. These three fundamental attributes prepare leavers to move on to their next educational stage and start their young adult lives. Furthermore, our curriculum achieves the highest academic standard without compromising the key skills our children need to be successful in the workplace and generally in life.
For instance, we actively incorporate the skills which form our ‘Stroud Spirit’ into teaching and learning. The ‘Stroud Spirit’ curriculum strand encompasses six elements: resilience, curiosity, collaboration, independence, leadership, and communication. We always encourage our students to build and reflect upon these traits. This is why Stroud is truly a preparatory school, because we equip students with the tools for success.
Our provision for a personalised education, within 22 acres of rural Hampshire, allows for exploration. We hope that catering to the individual student will inspire, and hence develop a love of learning. Crucially, we have devised a wider curriculum that carefully balances academic rigour and focus with the sort of opportunities and experiences that remain with our pupils for the rest of their lives.
Please do take the time to come to the school for yourself, speak with the staff and the pupils, and experience Stroud’s community first-hand. I hope to meet you on a tour, which can be arranged by contacting our Registrar, Mrs Julia Piper.
