Meet the Stroud Committee

Mr Alan J Morgan, MA (Oxon), FCA, ATII. is Chair of Governors and is a qualified Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor. He spent most of his career as a Partner with Chartered Accountants Deloitte, becoming the Senior Partner of their Southampton office before retiring in May 2008. Alan is married with two sons who have both attended King Edward’s. His passions include music and rugby.

Mr Ben W Richards is Chair of the Stroud Committee. Ben was the founder of Whitegrove Ltd and then a main board director of OfficeTeam Ltd with a turnover of £160m. Other business interests are The Contract Chair Company specialising in restaurant and hotel seating, The Digital Quarter and property development company, Zelda Investments. He is involved in coaching sport, on a voluntary basis, at Stroud School as well as being a past parent. He is also governor and former pupil of Canford School.

Mrs Wendy P Swinn BDS. LDS. RCS. is a member of the Stroud Committee. Having qualified initially as a Dental Therapist, Wendy worked in the Community Dental Service where she became Co-ordinator for Dental Health Education. She then trained and graduated from the University of Wales as a Dental Surgeon in 1987. Since then Wendy has worked in hospital services, NHS Practice, industry and is currently working as a partner in Private Practice. Wendy enjoys swimming, walking, cycling and music. She is married with two adult children, both of whom have attended Stroud and King Edwards.

Mrs Sara J Mancey is a member of the Stroud Committee. Sara is co-owner and director of Paultons Family Theme Park and a former parent of both Stroud and King Edward’s. She brings entrepreneurial experience and is particularly involved with the HR and administration function of the Company. Sara is married to Richard and they have three children.

Mrs Jess Wadsworth is a member of the Stroud Committee. Having graduated from Bristol University with a degree in French and Philosophy, Jess joined the Metropolitan Police Service, and enjoyed a twenty year career there. She served in varied disciplines and locations throughout London. Some of her most notable operational roles were as a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) countering high level corruption within the Force, an SIO running a homicide investigation team and leading the Met’s Intelligence Bureau. She also spent periods working within the Commissioner’s Private Office and heading the Met’s Strategic Review into the London Riots of August 2011. She transferred to Hampshire Constabulary as their Director of Intelligence in 2013. Jess is married with three children, the eldest schooling at KES and the younger two at Stroud.

Dr Yvonne Binge, MB, ChB DRCOG. is a member of the Education & Welfare Committee. Yvonne is a Birmingham Graduate. She trained as a GP but later diversified into other fields; Psychiatry, Occupational Health and Accident and Emergency. Yvonne worked abroad in many countries including Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Uganda. She has been a medical member of The Independent Tribunal Service since 1992. Yvonne recently retired from clinical practice. She has three children and her interests include languages, travel, water sports and badminton. She is a member of Rotary International.

Mr Brian E Gay, BA, OE. was himself educated at King Edward’s and then went on to King’s College London. He retired in 1998 after a career in the electronics industry with his last post being that of Managing Director for a medium sized plc. He became a School Governor in 1996 and was Chair from September 2001 until November 2017. Brian is married with two sons, the elder of whom attended King Edward’s and has two grandchildren who currently attend Stroud. Brian’s interests include motor boating, gardening and tennis.

Mrs Mary Chant is Chair of the Education and Welfare Committee and a member of the Finance Committee. Mary is a Solicitor and Partner with Thrings LLP. Her work predominately involves advising on and preparing contracts and terms of business, as well as identifying clients’ regulatory risks and providing commercial and procedural solutions to achieve compliance. Her compliance work includes data protection, consumer protection, unfair contract terms, sales promotions and competition. She has also advised many clients on the buying and selling of businesses and companies. Mary was previously a Governor of Bournemouth University for ten years. Her interests include singing, sport and sailing. She is married and has one daughter, who attends the School.

Rev’d Jane E C Thompson, BA (Hons), DipHE. attends the Stroud Committee as an independent director of Stroud School Limited, which is owned by the King Edward VI Southampton charity. She read European Studies with French at Lancaster University and, following a PGCE, taught modern languages, including a year at Stroud. More recently, she was ordained into the Church of England and is currently serving in the Braishfield Benefice. She has extensive youthwork experience and been a governor at primary and secondary schools for over twenty years. Married to Chris, their three sons all attended KES, each starting at different entry points. Jane’s interests include music and the performing arts
