Priority is given to the core subjects of Mathematics, English and Science. The foundation subjects including History, Geography, Design Technology, ICT, Art, Music, Physical Education and Religious Education are also studied. The modern foreign languages studied are French and Spanish.
The Early Years Foundation Stage leads into Key Stage 1 which remains largely class taught. We have a dedicated Key Stage 1 library and computer suite, and have developed the outdoors area with resources to offer challenges that stimulate and develop children’s academic, creative, exploration and physical skills. The children in the Early Years and Key Stage 1 also enhance their learning through the use of ‘Forest School’ and ‘Beach School’.
In Middle and Senior School there is a gradual transition from class based learning to the more specific subject specialisation necessary to prepare pupils for scholarships and entrance to senior independent and maintained schools. In the core subjects of English and Mathematics pupils are set according to ability and are regularly assessed so that their academic and personal achievements and needs can be identified.
