History

“I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.” Confucius

From re-enacting the Battle of Hastings in the school grounds to becoming an Ancient Greek for a day, history at Stroud comes to life! We believe that for children to fully engage with the past, they need to be immersed in it. Whether studying ancient civilisations or learning about what it was like for children in WWII, our pupils acquire a genuine passion for the past.

Our rich curriculum is enhanced by a range of exciting excursions, both locally and abroad, which give children further first-hand experience of the era they are studying. Year 4 children step into an Iron Age settlement at Butser Ancient Farm; Year 6 pupils develop a deeper understanding of the D-Day landings through an inspiring visit to Normandy; and, pupils in Year 7 experience Medieval life as they explore the battle-scarred walls of Warwick Castle. These are just a selection of the many trips every child will have a chance to take part in during their time at Stroud.
